- You only want to pet your hedgehog while it is in your hand. Never reach into the cage to pet your hedgehog unless you know that your hedgehog is completely comfortable with you.
- Picking up
your hedgehog properly is the first step in minimizing huffing, puffing, and popping. Use flat hands and swiftly scoop them up, keeping your hands flat.. now be patient.
- Don’t attempt to pet your hedgehog when they are curled or balled up, you need to be patient and wait for them to come out of their ball and begin to explore. Once your hedgehog relaxes, they will begin to lay down their spines and move around on your (flat) hands.
